Van Alden

Welcome to Van Alden

Originally constructed in 1934, this 6500-square-foot classic hacienda ranch-style home sat on a 1.5-acre lot in Tarzana, CA. It was the home of actors Robert Wagner and Robert Young, who donated a section of the home to found The Buckley School, now located in Sherman Oaks.

Tisdale Construction was hired by actor Annie Potts and her husband and director James Hayman in 2005 for a complete rebuild of the north side of the home, beginning where the kitchen meets the foyer, with the intention of matching every detail of the original half of the home to the new. Previous renovations had fallen short and left the house in a state of confusion.

The variety of authentic Spanish and Mexican tile themes and the flowing indoor and outdoor feel defined the colorful liveliness and inviting nature of the completed project. Hand-distressed ceiling beams, matching vintage door hardware, custom paneling on all the interior doors, as well as updating the entire home with an automation system were just a few of the tasks at hand in marrying the new to the old. In 2012, Tisdale Construction returned to renovate the Master Suite, adding a flagstone patio, endless pool or Jacuzzi, outdoor tiled shower, office, and dressing room, again consistent with the style of the home.
